Welcome to Okay To Talk Counselling.

My name is Joe and I am the founder.

I am a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist based in Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire.

I am a person centred counsellor, which means I can offer you a safe space to listen to you, and help you to move forwards.

As well as running my own private practice, I have experience counselling in Primary and Secondary schools, as well as Colleges. I try to help you to reach your full potential and become your true authentic self, before the conditioning of social norms, which is known as 'Self Actualisation'.

This type of therapy helps clients to have more awareness, compassion, and resilience.

I often like to share many things I have learnt from the counselling course I studied and any useful tips.

I am Walk and Talk Therapy trained. We don't have to sit in a room, if your preference would be to walk outside side by side. There are many health related benefits to being outdoors and having therapy.

I am trained in Rewind, which is a treatment that can greatly reduce, and even remove Trauma, Phobias and Anxiety through relaxation and guided imagery.

Our traumatic experiences are stuck in the receptive part of our brain, rather than being filtered through to the memory part of our brains where it is filed away. This technique helps you to have control over the traumatic event by accessing it only if you did voluntarily, rather than being constantly triggered by the event.

I also have a level 1 and 2 attendance certificate for EFT tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique). It involves tapping specific points on the body, primarily on the head and face, in a particular sequence. Whilst doing this, the person focuses on the issue they wish to treat.

This technique can be helpful for anxiety, depression, chronic pain, stress, weight loss issues amongst other problems.

Experience working for CASY (Counselling And Support For Young People), where I have counselled at their headquarters in Newark and at allocated local schools, Fortis Therapy based in Grimsby, and Lincoln College.

I am a registered member of the BACP which is a governing body for counselling, and I work to their code of ethics.

I studied a Level 5 Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy. This was a 2 year course which I completed at a mental health counselling service called Supporting Minds, in Lincoln, Lincolnshire.

The course covered Counselling Skills, Working with the Inner child, Grief and Loss, Abuse and Trauma, Creative ways of Working, Personal Development, 100 hours Supervised Practice, and 15 hours of my own counselling.

I completed my 100 practice hours at a counselling service called CASY (Counselling and Support for Young People) in Newark, Nottinghamshire.

After completing my practice hours and qualifying, I was then offered work in schools.

I have experience counselling at Primary, Secondary schools and colleges in Lincolnshire.

I have worked with clients with Anxiety, Depression, Body Dysmorphia, Guilt, Grief and Loss, and other presenting issues.

I currently work for CASY, Fortis Therapy and private practice.

Other Experience

I have a therapeutic background from when I worked for the NHS.

I was an Occupational Therapist Assistant in the hospital setting, working in Orthopaedics, Surgery, Brain Injury and Stroke. The main focus of this type of therapy was promoting health and wellbeing through occupation, enabling people to overcome barriers to be able to participate in the activities of everyday life.

I then progressed into the community setting as a Rehabilitation Assistant, where I would visit patients in their own homes/care homes/respite. I would carry out Occupational therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech and Language therapy with stroke patients as part of their rehabilitation.
